Our History
Astoria Lutheran School was established in 2012 as the result of the merger of Grace and Queens Lutheran schools. The School offers children, three years of age to grade eight, a place where they can explore, learn, and celebrate their God-given talents in the knowledge that they are loved and accepted for who they are as children of God. Although many things have changed in the 50+ years since Grace and Queens Lutheran schools began, the school’s faith foundation and commitment to educational excellence and innovation remain the same.
Grace and Queens Lutheran Schools touched the lives of thousands and students and families over the years. As a result, Astoria Lutheran School has continued the legacy of these two schools as it serves the children of the Astoria community and the surrounding environs. In recent years, alumni of the Grace and Queens Lutheran Schools have returned to enroll their children, desiring them to become immersed in the school’s comprehensive learning opportunities as they were when they attended. Grace and Queens Lutheran Schools’ long history of providing high-quality, faith-based education has helped the school earn its place as a respected educational service provider in the community.
Astoria Lutheran School is owned and operated by Grace Evangelical Lutheran Church which is part of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America. Also, it is a member school of the Lutheran Schools Association (LSA) of New York, and the Evangelical Lutheran Education Association (ELEA), as well as the Center for Urban Education Ministries (CUEM).
